At this point...it is beyond just worship.

Life is a gift from God. But sometimes, life is hard. There’s no way to sugarcoat it. There are seasons in our lives that can be classified as “storms.” These life events come out of nowhere but are times when we must lean into the heart of God and cling to His promises rather than our own will and emotions. Jesus in John 16:33 assures us as his followers that “In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
One of the most powerful weapons Jesus has blessed us with is worship. Worship goes beyond a beautiful melody and catchy lyrics. It can be our battle cry in tough times or expressions of joy when God lifts us up out of our valleys. For us, worship has become an expression of praise to God, thanking Him for all the good times and for carrying us through the storms of life. Jesus speaks about how worship works:
John 4:23-24 “Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshippers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”
I remember first hearing about this Scripture in church back home in New Jersey. According to Jesus, a true worshipper worships the Lord with a pure heart and understanding of the truth of the lyrics. The truth is that some worship songs are best sung when we have gone through what the lyrics are saying. For example, you would never understand “Raise A Hallelujah” by Bethel Music if you didn’t use it as your war cry during a spiritual battle. Or, after a long, dark night of battling anxiety or depression, simply seeing the sun come up gives hope, as Tauren Wells explains in his song “Joy in The Morning.”
